File transfers for work: requirements and settings

What business file transfers need

When sending files to clients or outside your organization, delivery alone is not enough. The following conditions also matter.

• ・Downloads remain limited even if the link is forwarded to someone else
• ・Files are automatically deleted after a set period
• ・Files are protected both in transit and in storage
• ・Recipients do not have to register an account or install an app
• ・No ads, so links look professional when sent to clients

Limit downloads and retention time

With FileExpress cloud transfers, you can set a download limit of 1, 5, 10 or 20. If you choose 1, the link becomes invalid once the recipient receives the files, and nobody can download them afterward. This helps limit the impact if the link is forwarded.

Choose a retention period of 1, 3, 7, 15 or 30 days. Files are automatically deleted after the selected period, preventing information from being left behind because someone forgot to delete it.

An option that leaves no files on the server

Use direct P2P transfers when sharing internally a file that must not leave your organization, or when you simply don't want to put it in the cloud. Files pass directly between the sender's and recipient's devices and are not stored on the server.

Direct P2P transfers require both parties to be online at the same time. If coordinating a time is difficult, choose a cloud transfer and control access through the download limit and retention period.

About encryption

With cloud transfers, all files are automatically encrypted for storage at no extra charge. All communication uses HTTPS.

Estimated costs

Files totaling 100MB or less are free to send up to 3 times a day. Above that allowance, cloud transfers cost JPY 110 per 1GB, including tax, capped at JPY 330, including tax. Even a 5GB transfer will not cost more than JPY 330, including tax. Direct P2P transfers are free regardless of size.

   Drag and drop your files on the home page. You can send multiple files together.

   Choose a cloud transfer

   Cloud transfers are usually the best choice when recipients need to collect files at their convenience. For immediate sharing within your organization, direct P2P transfers also work.

   Set the retention period and download limit

   Choose a retention period from 1 to 30 days and a download limit from 1 to 20. We recommend keeping the download limit low when sharing outside your organization.

   Share the receive code

   For better security, share the issued 4-character receive code through a separate channel from the files themselves, such as a phone call or chat.

Frequently asked questions

Can I limit the number of downloads?

Yes. Choose a limit of 1, 5, 10 or 20 downloads. Downloads are disabled once that limit is reached. If you choose 1, the link becomes invalid as soon as the recipient receives the files.

Are files deleted automatically?

Yes. Choose a retention period of 1, 3, 7, 15 or 30 days, after which the files are automatically deleted. With direct P2P transfers, files are never stored on the server in the first place.

Do my clients need to register an account?

No. Recipients simply enter the 4-character receive code in their browser. No app installation or account registration is needed.
